TOMMY Cooper fans are being given the chance to glimpse a unique portrait of the comic genius, signed by his admirer Hollywood star Anthony Hopkins, before it is auctioned. The special painting of the late magician was given to Sir Anthony, who is patron of the Tommy Cooper Society, last year, when he unveiled Tommy's bronze statue in Caerphilly.

Student Jailed After Customs Cocaine Sting ; Nigerian Gets Six-Year Term After Drugs Operation

A UNIVERSITY student has been jailed for six years for signing for a parcel of drugs worth up to pounds 70,000. Nigerian-born Adeyinka Kyeyemi Bamikefa was caught in a "sting" operation by an undercover officer and admitted conspiracy to import illegal drugs.

Caged Eggs 'Less Costly' ; Council 'Cannot Afford Free Range'

A BID to swap battery eggs for free range ones in schools, residential homes and park cafes in the Vale of Glamorgan has been blocked - because it would be too expensive. The Vale council currently purchases Lionstamped battery eggs for use by its catering service.

Dementia Week Events

SUNRISE Senior Living will be holding a dementia awareness week. On Monday there will be an open morning between 10am and noon, at the centre in Cyncoed Road, Cyncoed, Cardiff.

Special Exhibit of Students' Work

TALENTED students showcased their creative side at a free exhibition to highlight Learning Disability Week. Work on show at Penarth's Washington Gallery was used to help demonstrate the skills and talents of the students at Beechwood College in Sully, many of whom are also keen animators and musicians.

HELP has been flooding in since the mother of a Welsh Guard fighting in Afghanistan appealed for shoeboxes to send provisions out to the troops. Back in May, the Echo told how Sandra Huish, from Rumney, Cardiff, had run out of shoeboxes to fill with food and toiletries for the 1st Battalion Welsh Guards.
