MERTHYR Tydfil AA members David Lee and Gareth James fished for pike in Pontsticil Reservoir where David's mackerel dead bait tempted fish of 9.5lb, 13.25lb and 17.25lb and Gareth caught a 23.5lb beauty on a piece of lamprey fished on float tackle. The Merthyr club's Penywern Top Pond is providing plenty of action for carp anglers.

SULLY Sports are the early Division One pacesetters, albeit on goal difference as six clubs still boast 100% records. Sully's latest success came at the expense of local rivals Cogan Coronation, Alex Long's first-half goal securing the points in a 1- 0 win.
NEWPORT'S disabled archer Pippa Britton took gold in the team event, while narrowly missing out on an individual medal at the World Championships in the Czech Republic. Pippa was edged out in the bronze medal play-off 104-101.

First All Over City smashed Shoot FC 5-1, thanks to Daniel Stockford, while Venomous Vipers slithered to a 4-0 crushing of Penarth Panthers as Sam Irwin was at his best.
Cardiff Have to Wait As Sudbrook Fall to Defeat

A CARDIFF lawyer charged with misconduct in public office and attempting to pervert the course of justice had his bail renewed in a preliminary hearing yesterday. Sarfraz Ibrahim, 50, of Llanedeyrn Road, Cyncoed, is head of the trials unit at Gwent Crown Prosecution Service (CPS). He appeared in the dock at Swansea Crown Court yesterday alongside co-defendant, Saifur Rahman Khan, 36, of Ty Gwyn Avenue, Penylan, Cardiff.
Minister Gets On Her Bike to Join Litter Pick
ORGANISERS of a seven-day nationwide clean-up of known litter black spots are predicting their biggest ever event. Keep Wales Tidy is running the week from September 21-27 under the banner of Tidy Wales Week. Since details of the clean up were announced, more than 286 schools, 149 businesses, 125 community groups, 34 Communities First partnerships, and 63 public sector agencies have already ordered clean-up kits, of which there are just over 100 kits remaining.
Rail Service Improvement 'Not Enough'
COMMUTERS taking the Cardiff to Bristol train each day will soon be travelling on longer and less-crowded trains, Network Rail said yesterday. The company wants to introduce more seats on nine services between Cardiff and Taunton and Cardiff and Portsmouth - both of which call at Bristol stations - over the next decade.

Honour for Iraq Service ; Newsbrief
A NAVAL reservist based at HMS Cambria in Sully has been honoured for his exemplary contribution after serving in Iraq. Paul Rabone's compassion and professionalism were praised by commanders after the Royal Naval Reserves petty officer's tours to the Middle East.
