An exodus of dentists planning to leave the NHS could leave large parts of Wales without dental cover. More than half of all NHS dentists are threatening to go private unless there are radical changes to the proposed new dental contract.

More than 100 dentists in Cardiff, Merthyr Tydfil, Vale of Glamorgan and Rhondda local health board areas have already signalled their intent to leave the NHS - some as early as next March - because of problems with the proposed new contract.
