'I'm Never Going Out with a Boy Again' ; What Accused Girl Said in 999 Call Moments After Boyfriend's Alleged Murder: Murder Accused Is Led From the Dock in Tears

Summary

A STUDENT accused of murdering her boyfriend left court in tears as jurors heard the 999 call she made as he lay dying. Katherine McGrath, 19, of Brackla, Bridgend, plunged a steak knife into the heart of boyfriend Alyn Thomas, 22, in a single thrust. On the recording McGrath could be heard saying: "There's a guy and he's bleeding to death, please come. He's been stabbed." When the operator asked if McGrath saw what happened, she replied: "It was me, OK. I did it in self-defence, he's my boyfriend and he like came and attacked me and I didn't know what to do."

She added he had been drinking and was very aggressive. McGrath cried and covered her mouth in the dock as she heard the emergency operator ask what happened and heard her own voice reply: "We'd beendrinking; we'd been in town. He's my boyfriend and he pushed me on the floor." The jury was then played an enhanced and slowed down version of the tape in which McGrath was heard to say: "He tried to hit and spat at me; I didn't know what to do."
