Summary


Controversial plans to build a major treatment plant at Aberthaw Power Station are to go out to public consultation. Environmental experts and local councillors have already raised concerns that the scheme, which is seen as vital to the future of the power station, could threaten marine life in the Bristol Channel.

They fear that discharges of pollutants, including mercury and arsenic, could also affect internationally important conservation sites in the Bristol Channel and Severn Estuary.
