I ALSO remember cycling from Grangetown to Penarth going through the subway, coming out of Penarth dock and seeing the two German full-masted training ships, boy were they a good sight to see.

We didn't see any of the cadets at all but it was a lovely sight and a lovely night. I think it was 1947 and most of the beaches and their surroundings hadn't been altered then.
