It is the end of an era - after more than 40 years Top of the Pops is being axed from BBC 1.The show will move to BBC2, but for generations of pop and rock fans things will never be the same again. It was 6.36pm, on Wednesday, January 1, 1964, that DJ Jimmy Savile, introduced the first ever Top of the Pops from a converted church in Manchester.
