Art Students Still Favour 'Old School'

A SURVEY of GCSE students across Cardiff and the rest of the UK has shown that the old artists remain the most popular despite tough competition from more modern creators.

A study of more than 1,300 GCSE students by OCR, the UK awarding body, found that even though it is nearly 500 years since he last wielded a brush, Cardiff students' most admired artist is still Leonardo da Vinci with almost a quarter of students (24%) putting him and Claude Monet at the top of the class. Da Vinci's priceless painting, the Mona Lisa, remains the most iconic piece of art of all time.
