Summary
Rhondda looks set once again to be Labour's strongest Welsh constituency as Chris Bryant slightly increased his majority to 16,242. And with turnout up from 60.8 per cent to 62.11 per cent leaving Plaid's runner-up Layton Jones trailing at 4,956, Mr Bryant was delighted. He said: 'I'm chuffed to bits for two reasons. It looks as though there is going to be a Labour Government and it would not be much use for me to be MP for the Rhondda outside a Labour Government. But drugs still affect far too many people in this constituency, and I want to help more people off benefits and into long-term jobs and to tackle anti-social behaviour and yobbishness that ruins people's lives.'
The MP pledged to take on unscrupulous landlords and credit sharks and to continue to be a campaigner throughout his term. He added: 'It looks as though I might have the biggest majority in Wales. People put their trust in me and I will continue to strive for them.'See the full content of this document
