Sixth-formers are to be paid to go to school. The scheme - due to start in Wales in September - will offer teenagers up to pounds 30 a week to attend classes. YOUNGSTERS WILL BE IN THE MONEY:SIXTH- formers are to be paid to go to school. The scheme is due to start in Wales in September and will be based on the Earn as You Learn Scheme in England which offers a pounds 30 allowance to 16 and 17- year-olds each week to attend classes.

The plans for Wales were revealed yesterday after the means- tested education maintenance allowances (EMAs) reduced the drop-out rates during the pilot schemes in 56 English local education authorities since 1999.
