Summary


NEARLY 2,000 haemophiliacs in the UK have died as a result of being given polluted blood which was administered to nearly 5,000 patients with haemophilia in the 1970s and 1980s. More than 1,000 were also infected with HIV, the virus that causes AIDS.

The blood products, bought from the USA by the National Health Service, were to fill a blood shortage in the UK.
