A RIDE aboard Cardiffs big wheel turned into an ordeal for a group of schoolchildren. The children were reduced to tears after the wheel was brought to a halt leaving their gondolas motionless. The pupils from Ysgol Gymraeg Coed y Gof Primary School choir had been given the ride after singing at the citys Winter Wonderland. Sarah Ellaway of Heol Ebwy, Caerau, was on the wheel with her daughter Elizabeth. We were near the very top and I was shaking with fear, she said. We could hear sirens from a fire engine and all the children panicked, they all began screaming hysterically it was freezing cold, added Sally Henwood who was on the ride with her daughters. Cardiff council said the wheel had been halted and evacuated as a precautionary measure after a safety light came on.: FROM PAGE 3: 'This was supposed to be a treat but it turned into a nightmare':Schoolchildren and parents were left terrified for nearly an hour as they were stranded aboard Cardiff's biggest Christmas attraction. The big wheel outside City Hall, known as the Cardiff Eye, was brought to a halt with frightened children aboard.

Most of those were children from Ysgol Gymraeg Coed y Gof primary school choir who had earlier been singing at Winter Wonderland.
