IN his role as Merthyr Tydfil town clerk at the time, Selwyn Jones' response to the Aberfan disaster has been described as "pivotal".
Yet it was a part that he rarely discussed, according to Rev Derwyn Morris Jones, who will be conducting today's funeral service. Rev Jones was mayor's chaplain in Merthyr at the time of the 1966 tragedy, which claimed the lives of 116 children and 28 adults.See the full content of this document

He said Mr Jones had helped launch the disaster appeal fund, of which he was a committee member, assisted with funeral arrangements and helped set up the tribunal into the deaths.
