Summary
The woman who caused a crash that killed the wife of one of Wales' leading poets has been spared a jail sentence. Joan Abse, 78, wife of Dannie Abse, died when the couple's Nissan Sunny collided with a Mini on the M4 near Pyle on June 13 last year. At Bridgend Magistrates' Court, Alison Clayfield, 26, from Swansea, admitted driving without due care and attention.
Gemma Stanton, prosecuting, said Clayfield clipped the Abses' car, sending it spinning on its roof. The couple had been on their way home to Ogmore-by-Sea, near Bridgend, following a poetry evening in Porthcawl.See the full content of this document
