The Darkness Returns ; the Big Picture Edge of Darkness (15, 116 Mins)

Summary

CAREFULLY retooling Brit dramas for a Hollywood audience has become a profitable pursuit of late. A Russell Crowe-headed version of the Bafta-winning 2003 mini-series State Of Play made some serious critical waves and now we're being presented with Martin Campbell's slick re-envisioning of the 1985 BBC miniseries, Edge Of Darkness. Adapted for the big screen by William Monahan and Andrew Bovell, the film version of Edge Of Darkness condenses six episodes of post-nuclear suspense into an engrossing two hours, transplanting the cat and mouse thrills to Boston from London and the Highlands.

Campbell directed the original television series and has proved his Hollywood credentials with big budget blockbusters including The Mask Of Zorro and Bond films Casino Royale and GoldenEye.
