Britain's Marc Jenkins was given a hero's welcome when he crossed the finishing line in the Olympic triathlon, despite coming in last place. But super-fit Jenkins, 28, from Penyfai in Bridgend, who ran a gruelling two kilometres with his bike over his shoulder to finish the race, staved off comparisons to marathon runner Paula Radcliffe, who dropped out of her race.

'You cannot compare Paula and me. She was going for gold while I was hoping to do as well as I could.'
