Summary
As a young girl my mother Johanna Donovan, or 'Girlie' as she was known, worked in Woolworths in Queen Street, Cardiff, which was just a few minutes walk from where she lived in Frederick Street.
She worked in the self service restaurant there and she told me that some of the customers on seeing the sign Fish Cake and Chips expected a plate of chips and a piece of cake for their sixpence or whatever it cost in those far off days.See the full content of this document
