Summary
Newport County convincingly won the season's fifth meeting between these Blue Square South promotion-chasers, and earned their place in today's second round FA Trophy draw. Previous encounters had indicated that there was little to separate the sides with Bath 2-1 ahead with one game drawn, and the first half followed a similar pattern with neither side able to create much goal threat. Familiarity seemed to breed contempt as the game simmered at times, and referee Andy Newell had to calm a flare-up involving several players just before half-time following his failure to deal with a challenge by County's Lee Fowler which infuriated the Bath players.
Bath's Lewis Hogg will wonder how County's impressive goalkeeper Glyn Thompson reacted to block his 52nd minute effort, and this was a pivotal moment in the game because three minutes later, Paul Evans in the Bath goal was slow to respond to a Craig Hughes shot which gave the home side the lead.See the full content of this document
