Q I recently bought my car tax and renewed our home insurance online and I am a confident internet user. I've heard there are some great bargains to be had on auction websites such as eBay, but I'm a bit dubious about buying things online from sellers I've never heard of. What do you suggest? A Internet auction websites such as eBay do their best to protect buyers from fraud and they often have 'seller feedback' lists where people can leave comments about how reliable a seller is. I'd suggest you read any website's terms and conditions to find out what protection you have before you buy anything.
If the site uses PayPal - an online payment system that lets you transfer money safely over the internet, you may be able to get some of your money back if the items you order don't arrive or are very different from what you ordered. This is a free service but you need to sign up to it before you can use it. If you buy an item from eBay, PayPal will protect you for its full value. With other online retailers, it can help you raise a dispute with the seller if there is a problem. Visit www.paypal.co.uk to find out more.See the full content of this document
