Neil Jenkins today voiced his fears that the aura of winning a British Lions place could come under threat because of an ever- expanding squad. The world record Test points scorer cast doubt on Sir Clive Woodward's decision to take 44 players to New Zealand for next summer's tour with the British Lions, saying it may cheapen the ultimate honour of winning a place in the legendary squad.

But on the thorny issue of whether his old Wales pals Rob Howley and Scott Quinnell should be considered despite their international retirement, Jenkins was categoric - of course they should.
