I READ in my Echo (January 30) that a gentleman due to have a hip operation received a phone call as he was leaving home for hospital, informing him that his operation was cancelled.

The reason given was that a special type of bed could not be guaranteed. On the facing page I read that the Assembly, as part of a pounds 4.6m scheme, is to provide free toothpaste to children. On the next page I read the Audit Commission has highlighted that the Wales Millennium Centre is again seriously underfunded, despite the Assembly having already chucked pounds 13m in their direction. Is Rhodri Morgan more concerned about an ailing theatre than an ailing human being?
