LORRIES taking Cardiff's food scraps to Derbyshire have pumped nearly 8,000 tonnes of CO2 into the atmosphere since the system was introduced last year, we can reveal today.

The total is equivalent to the same environmental damage as done in a year by an entire village the size of Creigiau - or more than 6,600 flights between London to New York.
