Summary
Many factors make Cardiff an ideal city in which to take to two wheels. It's largely flat, has extensive green areas, and has a network of paths linking the Bay, city centre, rivers, and parks. To investigate the pleasures and pitfalls of cycling into the city, Nick Canham of Cycle Cardiff rode four routes to the Queen Street area of the city centre from different locations: n Starting from Whitchurch library, I cut down Velindre Road and onto Ty Mawr Road. At that point I was virtually on the Taff Trail. Passing the old Melingriffith Water Pump, I stayed on the road - easier than using the pavement section of the Taff Trail - before cutting into Hailey Park . From there, it was green surroundings all the way to the city centre, passing Blackweir, which looks beautiful in the early morning. It was all traffic-free until the exit from Bute Park. Castle Street was busy, but manageable. The trickiest bit was turning right from Duke Street to get to the Queen Street cycle racks.
