Young offender John Singh-Taak saved up pounds 5,000 after leaving Cardiff for a new life in Southampton. But he must hand over part of his nest egg for an offence committed before he put his past behind him. Singh-Taak was ordered to pay pounds 1,000 after he admitted hitting Andrew Ryan over the head with a bottle outside the Toad bar in the city in January 2004.
