My congratulations to Dan O'Neill for speaking out against the persecution of Christians in countries such as Egypt, crucifixions in Sudan, attacks in India and Pakistan. I agree with Dan that, representatives of persecuting countries having attended the pope's funeral, now would be an opportune moment to give them a message. 'Time for muscular Christianity,' says Dan. I hope he means peaceful protest.
Sometimes, however, this doesn't appear to have much effect. About four months ago, acting on information from a researcher in the House of Commons, I wrote a polite letter to the Chinese ambassador about specific atrocities committed in China by the police.
