Campaigners faced with the threat of opencast mining on their doorstep were today banking on AMs to give them a lifeline. Jocelyn Davies, Plaid Cymru AM for South East Wales, is calling for an Opencast and Mineral Extraction Bill enabling the National Assembly to set a 500-metre buffer zone around sites to separate them from houses.
The assembly last month approved the massive Ffos-Y-Fran scheme in Merthyr Tydfil, which will come within 38 metres of some homes.See the full content of this document
