A MAJOR political row has blown up involving allegations that millions of pounds have been wasted over the siting of a Valleys waste transfer station.

Labour has accused Plaid Cymru of choosing a more expensive option to avoid a political backlash against two Plaid cabinet members at Caerphilly council. But Plaid has hit back, saying the previous Labour-controlled council should never have bought a large building at Ty Dyffryn, near Ystrad Mynach. The Plaid-led council has decided to build a facility for sorting and recycling waste on a former landfill site at Trehir, near Bedwas, instead of using the existing Ty Dyffryn building.
