Foot in the door Q Since my father died I have looked after my mother's house, taking care of the maintenance and renovating the property from my own savings. Now I learn that my mother is planning to give the house to my younger brother when she dies. Is there anything I can do? A Unless you repaired and improved your mother's house on the basis of a mutual agreement or understanding with her that you would have some entitlement to her house or a share in it in return for your work, you will be treated in law as a "volunteer".
