Summary
Wales manager John Toshack usually gets what he wants, and so it proved at yesterday's meeting in Frankfurt to decide the fixtures for the Euro 2008 qualifiers. Tosh wanted one of the top seeds in the opening game, followed by two home games to ease his young squad into the campaign. That seemed unlikely as Slovakia and Cyprus wouldn't play ball, but the Slovaks compromised to leave the Welsh boss a satisfied man. 'I am very pleased overall - if you had given me these fixtures at the start of the day, I would have signed up straight away,' he said. I was keen to take the team to either Germany or the Czech Republic to begin the campaign, and only to have one match in September. 'With two home games on the bounce in October, it gives us a chance to get further points on the board before a long break until March 2007
'Then we will go to Ireland and play the first competitive game at Croke Park in Dublin. It seats 74,000 and I am sure it will be a full house. 'One match in June 2007 is good for us too. At the end of a long season, we would not have wanted two matches in quick succession.'See the full content of this document
