Summary
IN OCTOBER 2008 I was acutely ill. After five hours of almost continuous diarrhoea and excruciating pain, we contacted the out-of- hours service.
Without going into all the details here, I can say that the subsequent experience was appalling. It seemed I might wait up to eight hours for a home visit, and many hours if I wanted an ambulance.
