NEWPORT youngster Joe Vickery saw his hopes of becoming the first Welsh winner of the Amateur Championship for almost two decades end after an exhausting day at Turnberry.

The 2007 Welsh boys champion was beaten at the last hole of thrilling semi-final against Dutchman Reinier Saxton, having needed four extra holes earlier in the day to see off Pennard's James Frazer in an all-Welsh quarter-final tie.
