WITH Oscar season just around the corner Kate Winslet has thrust herself right into contention for a Best Actress award with this superb holocaust drama.

In 1995 Berlin, lawyer Michael Berg (Ralph Fiennes) struggles with the past. He thinks back to 1958 when, as a young man (now played by David Kross), he fell dangerously ill and was helped by good samaritan Hanna Schmidt (Winslet).
