Summary
Some 50,000 Government files from the past three decades were made public today as a result of the Freedom of Information Act.On the first working day of the Act, documents ranging from the 1984- 85 miners' strike to the history of the Home Office cat were released to the National Archives at Kew, south west London.
Previously, under Public Records legislation, such material would have been held for 30 years before entering the public domain.See the full content of this document
